Overview & Highlights

Located in the heart of Houston on Bellaire Blvd, Taqueria Mexico is a vibrant Mexican restaurant that offers an authentic taste of traditional Mexican cuisine. This beloved local gem invites guests to indulge in a rich variety of dishes bursting with genuine flavors and heartfelt homestyle cooking, serving both longtime fans and newcomers alike.

The menu is a treasure trove of Mexican culinary delights, with specialties that will awaken your palate and satisfy your cravings. Start with their comforting Caldo De Res, a hearty beef soup served daily with rice and tortillas, or warm up with the soothing Caldo De Pollo — a homemade chicken soup brimming with vegetables and fragrant spices. For those seeking something more filling, the quesadillas come in multiple styles like the classic Simple Cheese or hearty, flavor-packed options such as Fajita De Pollo, Carne Asada, or marinated Al Pastor. Seafood lovers will be captivated by selections like Filete Empanizado, featuring a perfectly breaded catfish fillet, or Camarones A La Mojo De Ajo, succulent shrimp sautéed in a luscious garlic sauce served alongside rice and salad.

One of the most captivating aspects of Taqueria Mexico is its dedication to authenticity paired with a welcoming atmosphere. The dining room is consistently praised for its cleanliness and tasteful décor that subtly echoes the warmth and vibrancy of Mexican culture. Natural lighting floods the spacious interior, creating an inviting setting where families, friends, and solo diners can relax and savor every bite. Service here strikes a rare balance—attentive and friendly without being intrusive—with bilingual staff who make everyone feel at home.

Customers rave about the flavorful combinations that burst through every bite. Consider Steve Parkhurst’s nostalgic note on the steak served atop golden fries, perfectly soaking up the meat’s rich juices—this kind of detail highlights the kitchen’s care and precision. Meanwhile, Van Williams calls out Taqueria Mexico as a rare Houston spot that rivals the famed flavors of San Antonio, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking genuine Mexican comfort food. From the rich mole with chicken to the refreshing taco lunch specials, dishes boast fresh ingredients and vibrant salsas that elevate each meal.

Breakfast here is no afterthought either. Benjamin Lin highlights the unbeatable value and taste of the Huevos Rancheros, served with a robust ranchero salsa and accompanied by homestyle potatoes and refried beans — all under five dollars and fantastically satisfying in both flavor and portion. For lunch or dinner, the charro beans have earned high praise, with Maria Wanyana calling them the “best charro beans ever,” accompanying generous taco plates that keep customers coming back for more.

If you are in Houston and craving an unmatched Mexican culinary experience, Taqueria Mexico promises not only delicious, authentic dishes but also a warm and inviting atmosphere that feels like a loving nod to classic Mexican hospitality. From the kitchen’s soul-warming soups to the expertly seasoned meats and fresh seafood, every dish tells a story. Whether you are a devoted fan or discovering it for the first time, this restaurant is sure to leave a lasting impression both on your taste buds and in your heart.

Visitor Testimonials (936)

I used to visit Taqueria Mexico 20 years ago when I worked closer than I do now. I used to love the food then, and I love the food now. The steak was delicious, and the way it was set on top of the fries was perfect, the fries soaked up some of the steak juices perfectly. The salsa with the chips is quite good, but the server brought out to bottles of other salsa, a pink/orange salsa and a green. The pink/orange salsa was outstanding, I can’t even explain the flavor, but I loved it. I need to make it a point to get back to Taqueria Mexico more often.

Not sure why folks don’t love this place. Coming to Houston after 28 years in San Antonio, this place comes as close to that style of food as we’ve found. The flavors are really good, the food is fresh and the folks who serve and wait on you are really really nice and good at what they do. Really, I prefer this over the big chains as well as any other place we’ve tried after being here for 12+ years.

The food was really good!!! The atmosphere was very nice. The restaurant is very clean.

This is our go to Mexican restaurant when we venture to this side of town. Short wait for order and the staff is always attentive and nice.

Taqueria Mexico it's not just tacos! Here you can find different Mexican meals (enchiladas, sopas, burritos, quesadillas, mole etc) I highly recommend mole with chicken is delicious. - reasonable prices - the place is clean with nice decoration around. - the staff is very friendly (they speak English and Spanish) - the menu explained the ingredients in every meal. - Pozole and Menudo (are available on weekends) - free parking

Great breakfast! Huevos Rancheros with a beautiful Ranchero Salsa, two eggs over medium, homestyle potatoes, savory refried beans, and fresh thick harina tortillas, all for under five bucks! Very clean and spacious wIth natural lighting and tasteful South of the Border Ambie.

Best charro beans EVERRRRR. I just wanted a quick lunch. I picked up the taco lunch special. 3 tacos, rice, beans, guacamole, and pico for $11. So much food and it’s so good. I didn’t expect it to be so good
